"POP UP" SALE!

I know...I know...we all hated "pop up" quizzes in school, the ones you were never prepared for. But this is a "pop up" sale. Much more fun, I promise!

Tonight between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. U.S. Eastern Standard Time, I am having a "pop up" sale! I would love to have given you more notice, but that's what "pop up" means, all of a sudden, without notice!

But it's good, because all you have to do to save on my new photo pillows, photo totes, ETC., is to just type coupon code "SAVE10" in note to seller to save 10% off whatever you want! (Don't forget, must use coupon code to save :)

Ta-ta,

"She Sells Seashells..."

Wow! Time has passed! My apologies! I have been busy, and I'm sure so have you.

Since I last managed to get here, things have been a bit crazy with the change of seasons. As mentioned previously, it was the end of beach season....but seriously, not really. Everyone seems to love the beach all year round, right? So, there were my hand painted seashells to get out there in Etsy Land. A painting or two. Some of my Autumn Photography to be "dusted off" & reposted....etc.....etc.....& then this "bug/virus" that has caught me ridiculously early this month and doesn't want to let go.

But, just a quick little catch up on some of what has been going on.

Remember that silly little rhyme? ...... "she sells seashells down by the seashore"? Well, I realized recently, that's me! lol! At least, in a way...not exactly down by the shore, but close enough.

And that is some of what I have been doing....painting seashells, some for decorative use, some as necklaces, and several of them have left for happy new homes.

This little necklace went to Denmark:

This one went back to the Jersey Shore:

And this one:

But more are still available:

Until next time,
 Have a lovely day!

"Like a Big Box of Chocolates"

Like a big box of chocolates ... the ideas & projects are all laying in front of me....waiting for me to get to them all.  (Which one shall I pick first???!) They all look like fun....!

Like a colorful kaleidoscope....swirling & twirling in front of my eyes....dizzying!....so much flashing through my mind. I want to embrace them all, process them all, share them all! EEP!

I'm sure you've felt this way sometime too. But, I (we).... am (are)... just one little person (or persons)! Only so many hours in the day.....(yes, I've tried staying up half the night...often, that only works for awhile! :)

Do I have more new photos from the Jersey Shore on the way? (latest trip just a week and a half ago!) YES!

Do I have more new photos from New York City yet to be edited & listed? YES!

Do I still have that mannequin series from NYC to share with you? YES!

Do I have more hand painted seashells & ocean inspired jewelry on the way? YES!

New paintings?...YES!...new products featuring my photos & art ON THE WAY?...YES!....

etc....etc...etc....YES! YES! YES!

And then, I remember, it has been awhile since I blogged! And I have had visitors! :)))

So, I'm here to say, THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU for stopping by, though it may take me awhile to get back here at times.

THANK YOU for stopping by ColorWorkStudio on facebook & Etsy to see what's new.

THANK YOU for your wonderful patience while I keep trying to share the goodies with you A.S.A.P!

A little something from my recent visit to the Jersey Shore......

Lesson re-learned........Don't feed the seagulls unless you want LOTS of company!

I actually love it when they do this, but there just aren't enough treats to go around to all the seagulls in NJ! :)

See you next time!

"What's New For Fall?"

As summer is slowly drifting into fall, part of me wants to hang onto the last bits of summer, of course. But another part of me is looking forward to the coziness of autumn too.

Love pulling out my comfy boots that I live in through fall, winter, & as long as possible in early spring!

Every year at this time, I actually do shop in New York for my NYC hoodies that will keep me so warm & cozy! (Yep, I do get them in Times Square or Canal Street!) They get a lot of wear, along with my fav beach hoodies, and jeans.

Time for soft throws, some favorite movies, (romantic comedies, if you please, life is tough enough), a kitty on my lap, & scented candles to ease me into the chilly weather. (Hubby, too, of course! :) As the garden lights come on earlier in the season, white twinkle lights through the kitchen window reflect out into the darkness. As the lights blend, they "clothe" everything in soft, reassuring light. Yes, this season can be lovely too.

Change can honestly be refreshing & fun, and with the start of this season, several new things are on the way for ColorWorkStudio on Etsy too!

For quite some time, I have wanted to share my art with you in other "formats". I love art that is also functional, as well as esthetically pleasing. And, you probably know how much I love coffee! With this in mind, I am happy to share one of my latest additions to my shop with you! My "Whisper" print is now available for coffee breaks!

Another fun thing on the way......ever wonder what it must be like to be a Manhattan mannequin?

This is the beginning of a series of photos taken on my last trip to New York City......enjoy!

"A Day in the Life of a Mannequin"

Autumn in New York! Now that's fun! :)
Stop by soon to see more for fall!

NOT "The Shopoholic"

So, I went to New York City two weeks ago. (How can it be two weeks already???)

The whole idea was to have some fun....shop...bring home some goodies....shop...and, you know,.....SHOP!

I have to admit I am not a great shopper, as you may have guessed from my previous trip there. (Spent almost the entire day in Central Park taking so many photos, I still haven't finished editing them all....and no goodies.) Not even one.

Went to visit the Cake Boss Cafe on that visit.....did not bring home cake....didn't even eat cake! (Something seriously wrong with me....besides the chocolate allergy thingy, that is.)

Stopped up at Zabar's on the upper West Side also that day. A wonderful NYC food shopping experience with everything from gourmet goodies to kitchen housewares! (Remember Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail" sneaking around Zabar's with her little shopping cart, trying to avoid Tom Hanks?)

French olives? They've got them. More cheese than anyone could possibly know what to do with? They have it. Everything imaginable in cans & bottles. Fresh baked breads, cheesecakes, & delicacies? Yes, at least the last time I looked, which was in the springtime. On that visit, the bakery line was so long....I kept going.

Back to the olives...they have an olive bar. So, I thought I would try some french olives, maybe for salad nicoise. Mmm...then, this big guy comes in...walks right in front of me....and that was the last I saw of the olives. A lot of lip smacking was going on up there....I left.

Time was running out. Lines were l-o-n-g. No goodies. No cake from the Cake Boss....no Zabar's cheese...no olives...no knishes....no bagels...or cheesecake..., but I didn't mind!  (Eep! There must be a pill for this!)

When I do get to the city, most of my time is spent behind the camera, and I do have fun! Although, I do love fashion, I am much more likely to "shoot" clothing than buy it, as you can see here. These are little snippets of some of my fashion photos from New York in the past. Check out the full views in my Etsy shop. (More really fun fashion shots on the way soon! Can't wait to share!)

On this visit, I looked, and looked. Here & there. Such fun! But except for a pretty new top at H&M, (one of my most favorite stores in midtown Manhattan), no new clothes! Sigh......but, as they say, "all is not completely lost!"

Thank you Hershey's in Times Square for my big cozy new coffee cup! Couldn't resist...it was so sparkly! And it was practically the only thing I could have in that store. (you know, that chocolate allergy thingy...no wonder I have such will power with goodies, huh?) Although there was a certain strawberry shortcake that made me squeal in delight this summer. Tender yellow cake, extra rich whipped cream, fresh crimson strawberries! If it wasn't for the berries finally disappearing.......I don't want to think of what might have happened. (Those almost daily walks really are a necessity!)

So, there you have it. I love "The Shopoholic" movie, but that's NOT ME! At times, I really wish I could be more of a shopper, but I guess I just don't have the patience for it. I want to see things and do things, and I hate really crowded stores (like Macy's during the holidays!) and long, long store lines. And though I am usually very patient with everything else, super crowds in Times Square & even traffic, I practically panic in Walmart! Seriously! LET ME OUT! Let me out...whimper...whimper....

By the way, have you heard??? You can now shop H&M online! Woo hoo!!! I still like being there best, but, hmmm....no crowds, no lines, right?

Maybe this could work!

Until next time,

NOT "The Shopoholic", aka, Keri :)

Happy August!

Yes, I'm back from my summer break! I got a little bit of relaxation...a little bit of gardening....& lots of painting! Yay! Now, I'm refreshed & full of ideas & things to share!

It really isn't easy to just step back for a bit & take a break sometimes when you are so immersed in your daily activities, but I do think it is healthy & essential to see where you are heading & where you want to go.

One of the things I learned on my summer break:

How to Survive a Heat Wave!
1. A.C.!!! Cannot overstress the importance of air conditioning!
2. Long hair up as high as she goes!!! Whew!
3. 100 % cotton! (clothing, that is!)
4. Get REAL friendly with your local Deli!
5. Swim, swim, swim..."just keep swimming..." (nod to "Dory/Dorrie? in Nemo there! So cute!)

So, having said that....it's a new month and summer still lingers on for us to enjoy. Hope you are enjoying yours to the fullest!

Be sure to stop by ColorWorkStudio on Etsy and enjoy some of my newest photos from my last trip to New York. More on the way! You will also find many new beach photos, seashells, art prints, and I will be listing all of the new things I had fun creating on my summer break! Seashells,  new sea-inspired jewelry, paintings, & more!

Believe it or not, I'm just back, but at the end of the week, I am (honestly) heading back to "the City"! But this time, unlike last time, when I spent the entire day "shooting" pics of Central Park (gorgeous, wonderful day!), I am supposed to actually SHOP! (heh heh, how hard can that be???!!!!) And hopefully, I will get a chance to enjoy some of the yummy treats I ddin't get to try last time!

So, until next time, here are few pics, prints, & shells to check out, many more to come.  Forgive me for not posting pics here, but lots of catching up to do! :)

Summer Break!

So, although you don't see me here as much as either of us would like, and as I did just blog about everyone needing a "stay-cation" recently, it is now almost officially that time for me!

For ten days, Thursday, July 18th through Sunday, July 28th, I will actually try to do just that..a stay-cation. You know, one of those "staying at home, but relaxing or doing those things you might not have had as much time for before" kind of things. Kind of like a vacation, but not exactly. My actual, very brief, get away plans won't come till August.

So, this is the part where I try to actually "take a break". I have to admit, I am a little worried about it! I honestly can't imagine just "letting go" for a bit! Although, on my last visit to Central Park, this gorgeous Wisteria pergola at Central Park West & 72nd Street, right across from the Dakota Apartments, made it quite easy!

Having said that, hopefully, I will come back stronger & better for it, and I hope that when I do, you will stop by again too!

How about you? Any wonderful plans for this summer? Wishing you all the best for your "summer break", whatever shape that takes!

See you back here soon....sort of.... :)
*waves bye-bye*!

P.S. Don't forget to stop by Etsy! Just posted some new "goodies" from my last Central Park visit and many new beach photos are there also! You can also find some new ones on my facebook page!

Where Is She???

Yes, I know! I know! What is it about blogs that make it so hard to get back to them?

Let's face it. It is summer! Yay! There is the garden..... (though my hubby has been doing a wonderful job of keeping the weeds under control), lunch &/or dinner, often on the porches outside, weather permitting, etc., etc.

We fixed up the front & back porches for summer. Kind of a "his" & "hers" set up. "His" is very outdoor cafe style, table, chairs, hanging plants, bird houses, paper lanterns, candle in a mason jar with seashells, nautical touches here & there.

Okay, so maybe it isn't real masculine, but compared to my little cozy spot in the back overlooking the garden, it is definitely more comfy for a guy, but not so much I won't go there.... lol! I actually do a lot of my outdoor painting & art photography there too. But it is a nice spot when we want to dine out with out going out.

In the back, is my happy place! Definitely, feminine....sort of a "Beatrix Potter invited the bunnies, birds, & what not to a tea party" kind of spot. (And they DO, stop by!)

White wicker planters & side tables, rosy pink geraniums hanging, white petunias, & lavender & herbs in pots. White bistro table & pretty white matching cafe chairs. Vintage white tablecloth, fine china, teapots, teacups, seashells, soft tinkling wind chimes, more seashells, etc. Lovely vintage plates from England, Austria, etc. Who doesn't love strawberry shortcake on a beautiful piece of china? Watching "glitter"/lightening bugs at night drifting in and out of the garden alongside of the garden lights.....Oh...who can blame me for a little bit of a stay-cation?

Yes, it is finally summer....and if we don't catch a bit of it now....when will we? Winter was so long! Must indulge a bit in between editing & painting. Hope your summer is super lovely too!

Thank you so much for popping in!

Keri

P.S. Don't forget to stop by my shop on Etsy! I have done some work this summer! :)

"Back to the Beach"

Yes, once again, it has been awhile since I have been able to get back here.

Aside from the usual crazy pace, there has also been a quick trip to the beach.....(awwww.....really needed that!!!).....and also a brief visit to New York City! So much fun! So, now I really have tons of photos to post, as is, or to edit, but also a story or two to share :)

I kept wondering how things were down at the Jersey shore, and although I only saw a very small part of it, I could see some signs of damage even in the area I was in.

While my main concern naturally is for the wonderful people of New Jersey (as well as areas in New York along the coast), I also wondered about the little feral cats that lived under the boardwalk in Atlantic City, which I had photographed a couple years ago. What happened to them???

Here are a few taken a few years ago:

"Sand Kitty"

"Boardwalk Kitty"

And here is another snap of the same "kitty":

"Sleepy Kitty" He looks like he just woke up or needs a coffee break, don't you think?

We spoke with a woman who comes to visit these cats & takes care of them regularly. She said that some of the cats ran up to the higher areas of the Taj Mahal casino to safety and stayed there. While I did not see this black & white cat, I did see a larger cat that looked just like "Sand Kitty".

This sweet little feral cat kept circling the flower planter and then decided to get friendly with it. Thanks for posing so nicely, "Flower Kitty"! :)

You can find all these cute furry purries hanging around in my Etsy shop too!

More beach goodies coming soon, as well as NYC photos.
See you then!

SPRING HOME DECOR SALE!

I am quite late posting this month. So sorry! But I have decided that maybe it is better to say a little less each time, but post more often. (Maybe even a lot less! Now if I can just control the urge to ramble on, right?) Hope I don't bore you, but if I did, I guess you wouldn't be reading this. So, anyhow, I'm just popping in here quickly to share some of the goodies now on sale in my Etsy shop.

It's finally spring, and even though the weather can still be a bit chilly, there are signs everywhere! Flower buds, green grass, & lots of busy birds building their nests. (Did you know that if you leave small pieces of string (1-3 inches long???) here & there, they love "borrowing" it for their nests? We hung some bits of string out on a bush close to where mockingbirds were trying to build a new nest, and it all disappeared almost immediately! So cute!!! :)

Along with spring, comes time to redecorate! Many of my photos & art prints are on sale now and don't forget my "FABFRIDAY" sales if you are really looking for art on a budget!

Just listed today, all my 8 x 10 Fine Art Chandelier Photography is now on sale! French chic/Avant Garde/Shabby/Cottage styles to brighten and add a lovely luxurious touch to any room! Especially pretty in the dining room, living room, or for a romantic touch for the bedroom!

To find these & more, just follow this link to my Etsy shop :)

Cheers till next time!

"New York City's Most Whimsical Tea Room"

One chilly "almost" spring day, while in Manhattan, I found an area I hadn't explored much in the past. Although there are certainly "favorite places', I do love finding new things along the way. One of my most favorite places in New York City, of course, is Central Park. On this visit, I decided to head up to the upper west side along the Central Park West area. I've spent so much time in the park, I wanted to "look around" to see what I would find along the perimeter. Well, it's a pretty big "perimeter"! Take it from someone who once walked around a HUGE portion of it! (Bring REALLY good walking shoes :)

Though it was almost spring, just a day or two away, it was a bit cold. One of the places I wanted to see was the Dakota Apartments, home of former Beatle, John Lennon. I was also going to take a walk through "Strawberry Fields", which is located right across from the apartments at W. 72nd Street, and then follow the pathway that leads to the famous "Imagine" mosaic commissioned by his wife, Yoko Ono.

Instead of heading straight up 72nd Street, I got distracted by other things along the way and ended up over a bit further. While heading back towards the Dakota, I came across this cute little shop on a quiet little street. The sign on the awning read, "Alice's Tea Cup." Tied to the post outside with pink ribbons, balloons were waving in the air, and a menu on the sidewalk listed the scones of the day. Oh yeah, I was hooked :) Did I mention the twinkle lights??? Had to go in and check it out!

I dragged/pushed my "companion" who was with me inside the door. "She" had her plans for the day too, (shop, shop, & shop again! I, on the other hand, rarely shop there.) I know!!! Crazy, right? Maybe, a small piece of jewelry, a pretty warm scarf, or another bag for my camera on the rare occasion. But that's it. And coffee...lots of coffee! I just get so caught up in everything else around me & bringing home "memories". But I am certainly due....overdue! Maybe next time! So though we didn't get to stay & have tea or goodies, I did get a peek. So many scones, so little time! But since I have a food allergy, (would you believe.........allergic to CHOCOLATE? SERIOUSLY ALLERGIC to chocolate!) I didn't bring any home with me either. Also, if I wanted enough time to get my fill of photos & whatnot for the day, I would have to come by another time to really look around. So, on we went......but it left a "smiling" impression that I didn't forget. Ah.....one quick "snap" to be sure.........

Next stop.....Dakota Apartments.......

Sad....I know......Love that music that still lives on.....
           Such a beautiful building.......

Located on the corner of W72nd....cross the street to Central Park West.

Follow the path.....you are now in "Strawberry Fields". ("forever" :) You won't be alone. (Most likely.)

People & "puppies" all walk this way to visit and see the "Imagine" mosaic in memory of John Lennon......

Leaving flowers, dreams of what might have been....hopes for what might still be.......

Imagine.......

A little side trip there :) Hope you enjoyed it! But wasn't this supposed to be about tea???? Yes, it was. My apologies. It still is actually. Sort of.

My initial blog post was going to introduce you to "Alice's Tea Cup", show you some of the sights nearby, which I have done! But then I wanted to share a recipe with you from there that I had been wanting to make for awhile. But on second thought, I do not have permission or the time to get WRITTEN PERMISSION to print a recipe that is not mine! So proceeding cautiously....this I can share with you!

Yum! Finally got around to making these...."Banana Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting", courtesy of "Alice's Tea Cup". If you would like to make these, you can find a cookbook from "Alice's Tea Cup" on their website here: http://alicesteacup.com/ Lots to look at on their website. And it is also available on Amazon. Filled with recipes for cakes, scones, & all kinds of tea party goodies, it refers to this cute little tea room as "New York's Most Whimsical Tea Spot". Quite a big name to live up to, but I'm guessing it does!

Ta-ta till next time!

Keri

P.S. As always, many of these photos can be found in my Etsy shop :)

Coffee? Or Tea?

I have to admit, I am a fervent coffee lover, though I had been a happy tea drinker in the past.

But somewhere along the way, I started enjoying coffee again. Thanks to Starbucks and so many amazing coffee houses, lattes and the occasional cappuccinos became my constant companions. All frothy and creamy...caramel, amaretto, hazelnut, pumpkin spice? Yes, please! Dulce De Leche? Do, pass it over! :)

Throw in some scones, muffins, quiche, or as my husband once mistakenly called it, "qui ch-e"  (pronounced kwi ch-e, and we can lose ourselves for an hour or more in our favorite coffee hangouts.

But recently, I have had the urge to try tea again. Not quite sure why. I think it has something to do with all those flavors and realizing that those who drink tea, love it just as much as we love our coffee. So, on occasion, yes, tea might be fun! So, I made a nice cuppa recently. When the tea kettle started whistling, our youngest cat, "Poey" kind of "freaked out" a bit.  But, he usually does that two or three times a day anyhow :)

At any rate, if you liked my last blog post, "Diary of a Mad Cupcake", you might just want to stop by later this week..........especially, if you are an avid tea drinker! :)

Cheers!

Keri

"Diary of a Mad Cupcake"

If you follow me on facebook, (you can find me here: www.facebook.com/ColorWorkStudio ) you know that I have been promising something "sweet". Maybe I should have said "bittersweet"........ but mostly sweet! So here it is :)

It all started about a week ago. You know how you get "those" days. Life is hectic. You are always trying to keep up with it. But It's okay. You take it all as it comes. The "peacemaker", you smooth everything over. Nothing much bothers you. Then somewhere along the way.....something finally "gets" you! Wham! It might not be anything really big. It could even be something small that normally wouldn't even matter. But it was one of those days, and it came at the wrong time. Hmmmm.....what to do? How to handle it? Calm down...keep busy. Try something creative, but physical........BAKE!

Strawberry Cake with Creamy Homemade Frosting!

And so it started.......Get out the bowls! Drop in the batter, etc! Mix it up a bit......

Grab some eggs.....

Oh.....someone's come to help......it's Poe! (also known affectionately as Poey.) He loves to bake too!

 Add the eggs........

 What's next?

Beat It!

Whip it good! (Do you have any idea how hard it is to beat a cake and take a picture of it at the same time?)

Ever watch "Cake Boss" or "The Next Greatest Baker"? Then you know, "Bakers scrape!"

Pretty with Pink & Polka Dots......

Into the much used cupcake pan..........already smells good!

oooh.....sweet (but not too sweet!), creamy white, homemade frosting to finish it off!

Voila! So yummy! Cupcake Heaven!

What was that silly thing that bothered me??? Not a clue! heh heh......:)

Hugs!

Keri

P.S. Some of these yummies will soon be available on Etsy! (www.etsy.com/shop/ColorWorkStudio )
Watch for them! :)

Snowflakes!

Hi there! Yes, I'm back already :)

As promised in my last post, I am going to share a couple photos with you here of "snowies" from the backyard.

Much as I am looking forward to spring, the garden looked so pretty after almost a day of big snowflakes falling everywhere.  Enjoy!

In the garden.......

A little closer.....

Around the house.....

Close up.....

Spring will come! Right??? Someday!

Cheers!
Keri

P.S. All available on Etsy, just in case you haven't seen enough snow yet! :)
